Early in its development, SAUTT undertook strategic planning
exercises in order to define and execute its mandate and to assist in
developing a law enforcement doctrine to guide its operations.
Formed initially through the re-assignment of personnel from the Trinidad
and Tobago Defence Force and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the
current organisational structure has been developed through ongoing
examination of similar organisations in developed countries. It also
identified the unique needs for organisational partnerships in
formulating a feasible and effective approach to crime reduction in
Trinidad and Tobago.
In its current state, SAUTT’s is an organisational structure that is a
functionally sound model and is sufficiently flexible to serve the Unit
as it evolves. The structure also represents a new organisational model
that is tailor-made to serve the present and future National Security
needs of our domestic situation.
As depicted in the schematic below, SAUTT is organised around key
strategic and operational functions to ensure efficient and effective
system integration.
