
In November 2003, Brigadier Peter Joseph became the first Director of
the Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago.
Born in December 1951, Brigadier Joseph joined the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (Regiment) on 1st July 1975. He completed his officer
cadet training at Britain’s Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, where he
won the Silver Stick as the Best Overseas Candidate.
Brigadier Joseph is also a graduate of the Infantry Officers Advanced
Programme in Fort Benning, Georgia (1985), the Joint and Combined
Command and Staff Course at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk,
Virginia, and the Defence Planning and Resource Management Course at the
Centre for Hemispheric Studies, National Defence University Washington
DC (2003).
Over the course of his military service, Brigadier Joseph held the
appointments of platoon commander and company commander in the 1st
Battalion, Trinidad and Tobago Regiment. He also served on the Battalion
Staff as the Mechanical Transport Officer and Battalion Adjutant and was
later appointed to the J3 (Operations Staff Officer) at Defence Force
Headquarters.
In 1998, Brigadier Joseph was given command of the First Infantry
Battalion and 2 years later assumed command of the Trinidad and Tobago
Regiment.
Brigadier Joseph has been awarded the Army’s General Service Medal, the
Efficiency Decoration and the Efficiency Medal; he is also the holder of
Executive Masters Degree in Business Administration. On 14th August
2006, Brigadier Peter Joseph was inducted into the National Defense
University, Joint Forces Staff College Hall of Fame becoming the first
member of the military in the Caribbean to have achieved this honour.
Brigadier Joseph and his wife Gail have five children.
